Setting up a new TV Licence with Direct Debit

The official cost of a standard colour TV Licence through TV Licensing is £174.50. TV Licensing allows customers to pay this amount either in full or via Direct Debit instalments.

Our service fee

When using TvLicenceAssistant, we assist with setting up your TV Licence using Direct Debit only.

  • We do not request the full £174.50 payment upfront.
  • We do not offer the option to pay the licence in one instalment.
  • You pay us a £19.95 administrative service fee, and your TV Licence payments will then be collected directly by TV Licensing through the Direct Debit plan you choose.

Our role is to handle the administrative submission on your behalf.

Direct Debit payment plans

TV Licensing offers three Direct Debit options for paying the £174.50 licence fee. Below is a clear overview of these official payment structures.

1. Monthly Direct Debit

Monthly Direct Debit is the most commonly chosen option and allows you to spread the cost over smaller payments. In the first year, the licence must be paid six months in advance. This means your full first-year licence fee is completed within the first 6 months. After the first year, future payments continue monthly at the standard rate.

2. Quarterly Direct Debit

With quarterly payments, the annual cost is spread over four instalments. A £5 annual surcharge applies for quarterly payments. Ideal for customers who prefer paying every three months rather than monthly.

3. Annual Direct Debit

Pay for your full TV Licence in one yearly Direct Debit transaction. Your licence automatically renews each year. No need to manually make annual payments.
